Some large municipal wastewater treatment plants have utilized the horizontal split-case multi-stage compressor. This type compressor has capacity control from 100-60 percent via variable inlet guide vanes. The impeller is cradled between tow outer bearing sets. Air enters and discharges radially. The horizontal split-case unit is an extremely quiet running unit, has expected life in excess of 30 years, and rotates at the 3,600 rpm motor speed.
Turblex, Inc., and the A-C Compressor Corporation have formed an alliance to provide this unit to the municipal market. A-C Compressor manufactures the compressor; Turblex acts as the sales outlet and does the package engineering, design, instrumentation engineering, and assembly in the Springfield, Missouri, USA shops.
