The KA2 air-end has a concentric inlet that decreases in area, as air approaches the impeller. This annular inlet decreases air turbulence, as air passes through the aerodynamically shaped inlet guide vanes. The overhung, milled aluminum alloy impeller, variable diffuser vanes, and tear-drop shaped volute, likewise, contributes to aerodynamic flow, producing the highest efficiency. The flexible shaft design operates between the first and second lateral critical speed. Aerodynamics of the air-end are identical with all other KA air-ends, except for size.
The GB gearbox houses a two-stage speed increasing gear set fitted with hydrodynamic pressure lubricated journal bearings. The fast shaft is equipped with tilting pad bearings. The gearbox is vertically split. The oil lube system consists of mechanical and electric oil pumps, an external water or air/oil cooler, and oil filter piped to an integral oil reservoir in the skid base. This gearbox is used for high pressure applications.
