The KA2 air-end has a concentric inlet that decreases in area, as air approaches the impeller. This annular inlet decreases air turbulence, as air passes through the aerodynamically shaped inlet guide vanes. The overhung, milled aluminum alloy impeller, variable diffuser vanes, and tear-drop shaped volute, likewise, contributes to aerodynamic flow, producing the highest efficiency. The flexible shaft design operates between the first and second lateral critical speed. Aerodynamics of the air-end are identical with all other KA air-ends, except for size.
The GK gearbox houses a single helical vertically separated speed increasing gear set, fitted with splash oil lubricated ball bearings. The gearbox is vertically split. The oil is cooled via heat dissipation through finned ribs on the blower casing. The oil reservoir (in the bottom of the gear case) holds 1.5 gallons of oil.
